Natural skincare is simply amazing: it nourishes your skin and keeps it healthy and glowing, without all the harsh or toxic chemicals that can damage your skin and overall health. Making your own skincare is even better! Tailored to your own needs, and often made with ingredients that come straight from your pantry, backyard, or garden, homemade skincare is simple, fun, and wonderfully affordable.
When it comes to aging, our culture can be a little strange. In a world of Botox injections, fillers, laser treatments, and endless “miracle” creams promising to turn back time, I like to take a gentler, more natural approach. To me, aging gracefully means staying healthy, nourishing your body, and caring for your skin so it remains vibrant and resilient.
This natural anti-aging cream is part of my daily natural skincare routine. It helps keep my skin deeply nourished, firm, and smooths the look of fine lines over time.

Why Making Homemade Anti Aging Cream?
Making your own skincare has so many advantages! Let’s explore them all together.
No additives or harsh chemicals
The biggest advantage of DIY skincare is knowing exactly what’s in it. You can use 100% natural, even organic ingredients, without the synthetic fragrances, stabilizers, or preservatives often found in commercial creams. It’s a simple way to reduce toxin exposure and support both skin and overall health.

It’s so much more affordable
High-quality “clean” skincare products can be incredibly expensive, often $30–$50 for a small jar. Making your own cream costs just a fraction of that. For example, you can render a pound of suet (about $10) into 10 oz of tallow, enough for several batches of luxurious cream! I made this one using home-rendered tallow (read how to do so here), wild-harvested horsetail, and rosemary from my garden, cutting my skincare costs by up to 80% compared to natural store-bought brands.
It’s customizable
Want a richer cream? Add more tallow. Prefer something lighter? Increase the jojoba oil. You can easily tailor the texture, fragrance, and herbal blend to your preferences, skin type, and needs. Try swapping jojoba oil for rosehip, argan, or avocado oil, use your favorite essential oils for scent and added benefits, or skip them altogether if you have sensitive skin.
It’s simple and fun
Homemade skincare is incredibly rewarding and requires no fancy tools. Plus, a jar of your own whipped anti-aging cream makes a thoughtful, personal gift.
Anti-aging Ingredients in This Natural Face Cream
Tallow
Rich in fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and palmitoleic acid, tallow deeply nourishes the skin, improves elasticity, and helps maintain the skin’s natural barrier. It’s remarkably similar to our skin’s own oils, so it really hydrates and nourishes without clogging pores. Find my favorite tallow cream recipe and read more about the benefits of tallow for skincare in this post.
Horsetail
One of nature’s richest sources of silica, horsetail (Equisetum) helps boost collagen production, keeping skin firm, plump, and youthful. It is also rich in anti-oxidants and can promote skin regeneration and wound healing. Horsetail also has gentle astringent properties that tone the skin and minimize pores (sources: 1, 2).
Green Tea
Green tea (Camellia sinensis) is packed with catechins and polyphenols, antioxidants that protect the skin from free radicals, the main culprits behind premature aging. Green tea can also help keeping the skin moisturized, soothing inflammation, reducing redness, and supporting an even, radiant complexion (source).
Rosemary
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) can improves circulation, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the skin’s surface for a healthy glow. It has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, that can help improve skin dullness, texture, and complexion, while also keeping the skin hydrated and elastic (source).
Honey
Honey is a wonderful moisturizer and anti-oxidant, it has antibacterial properties, and can help improve complexion and reduce hyperpigmentation and sun dark spots, leaving your skin soft, smooth, and luminous (source).
Vitamins C and E, and Essential Oils
These other optional ingredients can make this anti-aging cream even more effective.
Vitamin C brightens and supports collagen formation, while Vitamin E nourishes, softens, and helps extend the shelf life of your cream. Frankincense and carrot seed essential oils rejuvenate and firm the skin.
How to Use This Natural Anti-aging Cream
This anti-aging cream can be used as a daily moisturizer, both day and night, and even as an eye cream. I especially love applying it at night, right after a warm shower, when the skin is most receptive. It works as a deep, rejuvenating treatment that nourishes and restores while you sleep.
During the day, I usually reach for my tallow cream to keep my skin soft, moisturized, and protected, and I use this anti-aging cream as an eye treatment. Applied with gentle, circular motions, it helps smooth the delicate skin around the eyes and reduce the appearance of fine lines and crow’s feet.
This cream melts beautifully into the skin, leaving it soft, smooth, and naturally radiant, without being greasy.
INgredients for this Anti-aging Cream and Variations
For the infused oil

Jojoba oil: Mimics the skin’s natural sebum and balances oil production. Long shelf life and suitable for all skin types. Wonderful alternatives are rosehip, argan, grapeseed, or avocado oil. Organic is always best. I use this one.
Horsetail: Dried and crushed. You can either harvest and dry horsetail from the wild, or purchase dried organic horsetail like this one.
Green tea: Organic loose-leaf tea is best, but you can also open a couple of organic green tea bags if you have them on hand!
Rosemary: Dried, lightly crushed leaves. I use the ones from my own garden, but you can simply buy some organic rosemary from the store!
For the cream

Tallow: Use grass-fed tallow, homemade or store-bought. Learn how to render suet into cosmetic-grade tallow here.
Honey: Use raw or manuka honey for the best benefits.
Beeswax: Use beeswax pellets, preferably organic, like these ones.
Vitamin E (optional): Use vitamin E oil for skincare like this one.
Vitamin C (optional): Use a cosmetic-grade vitamin C like this one.
Essential oils (optional): Add a few drops for scent and extra benefits: frankincense, carrot seed, and lavender are all wonderful. Omit for very sensitive skin.
Tools You May Need to Make THis Cream
Jar and strainer/cheesecloth for making the infused oil.
Double boiler if you have it, or a medium-size saucepan + heat-safe bowl that can sit on top of the saucepan.
Large bowl or jar for blending/mixing ingredients.
Hand mixer (for whipping cream).
Glass cosmetic jars with lid, or two small (2 oz) mason jars or any other suitable jar to store your tallow cream.
How to MAke this Anti-Aging Cream
Make the infused oil
Step 1: Place 1 tbsp each of dried horsetail, green tea, and rosemary in a small mason jar.
Step 2: Pour in ½ cup jojoba oil (or enough to cover the herbs).

Step 3: Shake well and let the herbs infuse:
- Cold infusion: Place the jar by a sunny window and let it steep for 2–3 weeks, shaking occasionally.
- Warm infusion: Place the sealed jar in a saucepan filled with water (about halfway up the jar’s side) and heat on low for 2–3 hours, making sure the water doesn’t boil.
Step 4: Once infused, strain through a cheesecloth and pour the oil into a clean, labeled jar.

Make the cream
Step 1: Melt 4 tablespoons of tallow, ½ teaspoon of beeswax, and 1 teaspoon of honey in a double boiler, or in a large heat-proof bowl over a pot with a few inches of water over medium-low heat.

Step 2: Remove from heat and stir in 4 tablespoons of the infused jojoba oil, plus vitamin C, E, and essential oils (if using).

Step 3: Allow the mixture to cool until opaque and semi-solid (refrigerate for 5–10 minutes if needed).
Step 4: Whip with a hand mixer for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy. If the cream doesn’t whip easily, place the bowl in the freezer for a couple of minutes, then try again.

Step 6: Spoon into two 2-oz jars and seal with lids. Let the cream sligthly harden at room temperature before using.
Notes
Refer to my tallow cream post for how to render and purify tallow from suet.
Store in a cool, dark place or use amber jars to protect from light.
Use within 6 months, or refrigerate to extend shelf life.
For a lighter version, use a higher ratio of oil to tallow.
