This delicious and refreshing drink is made with only 3 ingredients and no fuss at all! Thanks to the medicinal properties of ginger, raw honey, and apple cider vinegar it’s the perfect tonic and soothing drink and can help fight off cold symptoms and stomach discomfort. Let’s learn how to make it!
A tonic and soothing drink that tastes delicious
Especially as the colder season approaches, I often feel the need to sip something different than just water throughout the day. This becomes a real need when I catch a cold or I’m not feeling at my best. A warm cup of homemade bone broth can do the trick, but sometimes I just crave something different.
A comforting cup of sweet hot coffee with extra cream is certainly warming and rewarding and can give a sense of energy, but is not always the healthiest choice and certainly not something you should be sipping all day long. Excess caffeine and sugars, in fact, can lead to irritability, insomnia, nausea and stomach discomfort, and fatigue. Quite the opposite of how we want to feel!
A healthy caffeine-free, low-sugar warm or cold beverage made with natural ingredients with beneficial properties can be a great alternative to simple water to keep you hydrated and energized throughout the day.
Thanks to the minerals and vitamins in ginger, apple cider vinegar, and raw honey, this tonic drink has reinvigorating properties that can boost your energy. But this is not the only advantage! This natural and easy-to-make drink can also soothe cold symptoms such as congestion, sore throats, and coughs, and is great to improve digestion and soothe minor stomach discomfort.
But let’s see more in detail why these simple ingredients are so good for you!
Properties and benefits of ginger
Ginger root has good amounts of vitamin C and folate, as well as magnesium and potassium. Thanks to the high content of gingerol, ginger also has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties.
Ginger can help fight nausea, upset stomach and indigestion, help with muscle and menstrual pain, soothe the symptoms of colds and flu, and fight infections like bronchitis and gingivitis.
Properties and benefits of apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is fermented apple juice and is high in vitamins (Bs, C, folic acid), minerals (manganese, iron, calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium), enzymes, and probiotics (when raw and unfiltered), that give it antioxidant, antiseptic, and tonic properties.
Apple cider vinegar can help increase energy and stabilize the mood, control blood sugars, relieve the symptoms of seasonal viruses such as congestion, sore throats, and cough, improve digestion and reduce bloating and indigestion.
Note: buy (or make) organic, raw, and unfiltered apple cider vinegar that contains the mother of the vinegar (the probiotic yeast) for best results
Properties and benefits of raw honey
Raw (unpasteurized) honey is a good source of vitamins (niacin, riboflavin), minerals (calcium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, zinc), amino acids, enzymes, phytonutrients, and prebiotics. Raw honey has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal properties.
Raw honey can help prevent and heal respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses and can soothe sore throats, coughs, and symptoms associated with Helicobacter pylori.
